BMW will release the M4 in four trim levels: Coupe, Competition Coupe, Competition Convertible, and CS Coupe. We’ll cover everything we know so far about the new 2026 BMW M4, from its design and competitors to its engine specifications and safety features.
New Design in 2026
The 2026 BMW M4 will receive a more subtle design update, continuing BMW’s aggressive and dynamic styling concept. The new model will feature a more assertive and aerodynamic body, with sharper lines and a more prominent front grille. The signature kidney grille, The kidney grille that is a hallmark of BMW design will remain, but will be more refined and integrated into the overall design. The M4 will also feature new LED headlights and taillights, giving it a sleek and modern look. The rear of the car will see a redesigned diffuser and quad exhaust tips, emphasizing the sporty nature of the vehicle. The aerodynamic improvements will not only enhance the M4’s looks but also improve performance and efficiency.
2026 BMW M4 Competitors
How are the Competitors? The 2026 BMW M4 will face some tough rivals. The BMW M4 has competitors like the Audi RS5, Mercedes-AMG C63 Coupe, and Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio. Each of these models has its own advantages. However, whether the BMW M4 is able to overcome its competitors, we can see in the sales market next year.
Engine, Performance & Real-World MPG
How’s the Power? The 2026 BMW M4 will continue to use the 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged inline-six engine that is the mainstay of BMW’s M division. However, for the 2026 model year, there will be three engine options. In the M4 Coupe model, the engine produces 473 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque. With rear-wheel drive and a six-speed manual transmission, it is the only one to use a manual transmission. The Competition model produces 503 horsepower and 479 pound-feet of torque. With an exclusive rear-wheel drive system, it is the only option with an eight-speed automatic transmission. Meanwhile, the last M4 CS model will come as a coupe and is equipped with a retuned version of the inline six-cylinder engine that increases power to 543 horsepower.

How can the M4 drive? The M4’s performance will be nothing short of exhilarating, with a 0-60 mph time expected to be in the low three-second range for the Competition model. during the testing we did, the M4 Competition accelerated from 0 to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds and completed the quarter mile in 11.6 seconds at 122.7 mph. That’s comparable to the current Chevrolet Corvette and Mercedes-AMG C 63 coupe.
How’s the Real World MPG? Despite its impressive power, BMW is likely to implement fuel-saving technologies to improve real-world fuel efficiency. We think the 2026 M4’s MPG figures are 16 mpg city and 23 mpg highway, making it relatively efficient for a performance coupe sedan.

2026 BMW M4 Comfort
The 2026 BMW M4 will continue to offer a balance between sportiness and luxury. The M4’s adaptive M suspension will provide a comfortable ride, even on rough roads, while maintaining the sharp handling and responsiveness that is a hallmark of BMW. BMW’s designers likely incorporated it to provide lateral support when cornering, or perhaps because they thought it looked good. However, our shorter drivers (under 6 feet tall) found it irritating. Consider keeping to the regular M4 seats. The climate control system works rather well, however we discovered it runs a little warm. The controls are generally simple to operate, however the lack of a specific sync button to equalize the dual-zone system’s proportions appears to be an error.

The interior of the 2026 BMW M4 will be a showcase of luxury and advanced technology. The dashboard will feature a digital instrument cluster, providing customizable displays and easy access to essential information. Though the M4 has the same interior layout and passenger space as the conventional 4-series coupe, it leans toward the sporty side with a selection of unusual materials and race-inspired extras. The standard M sport seats have enhanced bolstering, an integrated headrest, and an illuminated logo; ventilation is offered.
Front chairs made of lightweight carbon fiber are available. Additionally, the M4 will offer advanced connectivity features, such as over-the-air updates and Wi-Fi hotspot capabilities. The interior will also feature ambient lighting, customizable to suit the mood and preferences of the occupants. As standard, the trim around the dashboard, control panel, and cupholder has a Dark Graphite matte finish. The interior may also be upgraded with more carbon-fiber trim pieces and long paddle shifters located on the steering column. The back seat isn’t as spacious as the M3 sedan, but it’s still enough for passenger seating. The convertible body type provides limitless headroom; simply drop the retractable cloth top.
